View Full Version : How do I get the correct J hook for my 66SS spare tire?

After fighting with the J hook to get it up and the wing nut on I finaly noticed that there are 2 different J hooks/bolts for the 66 Chevelle.:frown: Makes sence since the SS had a wider rim with a different offset and a thicker tire; thus the need for a longer J hook.

The J hook/bolt I have is the #3841841 which is 7 7/8" long. I need the #3884933, which is longer but I don't know how much long. Does anyone know the length of this hook/bolt. On the 5" rim which is actually 6" wide, so a .56 offset would give you a backspace of 3.56". And for the 6" wide SS rim, which is actuall 7" wide, a 1.00 offset would give you a backspace of 4.50.

That would add 1" to make the hook extend the same distance as for the 5" rim; but this is the same hook as for the el camino, so that has to be conside and also the width of the tirer.

So I guess I am asking, does anyone know the length of the 3884933 hook/bolt? I have found a chevy hook available; but year or vehicle is not specified. This has a length of 9 3/4" and could be cut off.

Thanks,
