I'm not surprised about the formation of this forum. Frankly, I had the same idea.
At any rate, the purpose of this post is to generate an honest dialog about what we want it to be about. I'm generally a positive guy and not interested about discussing the failings of other things but focused on the end result or desired outcomes.
To that end: What do you want to see this forum become?
I loved the earliest days of Team Chevelle. There was a spirit of helpfulness without judgment. I do want it to be a place where people can get help and we all share knowledge to the advancement of our hobby with a great sense of decorum.
I have made many a good friends through Team Chevelle and not really interested in polarizing the sites to catalyze some type of war. Many people are members of different forums. I really don't want to see this one turn in to the anti-Team Chevelle site.
My thanks to Dale for the work he has done for the advancement of the hobby. I remember the Great Pumpkin before it was so on the Chevelle Mailing List. He will also not likely remember this but at my request he sent me a copy of "The Lively Set" on VHS before it was available. Thanks!

I agree. Alot of the crap that goes on in the Current Events forum is spilling out into the other forums where it doesn't need to be. We really don't need that there or anywhere for that matter.

I told Dean at the Kansas City ACES show that I thought Team Chevelle had in some ways turned into a kindergarten class. There are guys who are bullies, whiners, clowns, and instigators. Some of that can be fun and interesting, but for the most part, it's a PIA. Hopefully this board can stay a bit more mature in content and temperament.
It will be great when we get more participation in the tech forums so that in the future we can look to this site and TC for answers. That, to me, is what the site should be about; factual information to help other Chevelleists.
There, I invented a word.

hey I resemble that remark :)
WEll, I figure, Bench Racing is for the clowning around. All the other forums should be for the topic.

I would like to see this a purely friendly technical forum and leave the BS and politics over on TC. I am a CE regular on TC and I must admit CE really doesn't have a place on a muscle car technical forum.
CE at TC? Stuck my head in the door once. Figured out that wasn't for me real quick. I get enough conflict and bickering at work. Don't need to go looking for it. I've watched folks come and go at TC since 2001. Some contributed useful info. A lot contributed......well, they contributed.
I would hope this board would be like most of the parking lot discussions at CB. Useful info shared among friends with a little light hearted banter thrown in to keep it interesting.

I've been with TC since 1998 and probably will remain visiting to see what's going on and offer whatever help I can to users that post there. I must admit I ventured into CE a time or two myself and had a few laughs from time to time but it got old real fast for me. I certainly don't intend to have such an area here; there are enough forums and outlets for political views as it is. My hope is to maintain some integrity of the purpose of the site, and that is giving and getting help with Chevelle-related issues. I'm working on some 'rules' for posting. I'm sure there will be times when a thread may get 'testy' but hopefully it won't happen too often.

The new site looks great,Chevelle Stuff is always used as my first point of reference.I have made a small donation to try and give back a little from what I have learned. Also a huge fan of the registries, knowledge is power. Thanks Dale, Doug

Greatly appreciated, Doug. As I noted in another post, when I feel there's more to offer here than what comes out-of-the-box such as a Blog area (currently disabled till I test it some more), posting articles, more Inbox space, etc. I may offer a 'Premium Membership' deal and those kind enough to make donations now will certainly be at the top of the list. For now the current host is paid for and the software is paid for so we'll see how it goes.
Right now I'm just tickled pink more than one or two people have come by and showed an interest. :thanks:

I think when the word gets out on TC about this site, there will be a mass exodus. Will there be a classified section?

I've always referred to Dale's site first when I've had random people ask me certain things about particular years I wasn't familiar with. I would like to see this site grow, and stay inline with how Team Chevelle used to be years ago when I came on board. As far as CE goes...it really has no place on a car forum...AT ALL. it opens up a whole can of worms, and eventually spills out into other areas of the forum as we have all seen it do already. I have noticed alot lately, more BS being contributed than anything else. Alot of what I see in Bench Racing lately is the kind of thing you would see on some of those social networking sites and that;s where that kind of thing needs to stay.
Dale is an awesome guy for those of you that have never personally met him and I would like to thank him for all the work and especially research he has done in his own personal time to make a resource for us like this. :thanks::thanks::thanks::thanks:

I hope to have some type of classified for regular participants. Probably not as integrated as we're used to but that has years of development behind it. Maybe another forum as a starter? I hate to have too many forum categories but maybe something at the bottom of the list ?
I think one of the big problems with forum message boards has been people replying to another reply rather than to the original poster, then other people reply to that reply and on and on.
Back when TC was only one forum and it was all car related there wasn't many disagreements or "I know more than you do" posts. There was no such thing as private messages back then and I saw a need for members to be able to talk to each other so I suggested a forum for such things which was the start of the Bench Racing forum. Then later, I said lets just give them their own forum and let them fight all they want which was the start of the "non moderated" C.E. forum :(
I always use the "new post" to click on and hate clicking on one only to see that the only thing new is the same thing over and over, such as the old posts by two guys that were always "you're gay - no you're gay or Andy's Bondo comments, just for example. It always made me think I wasted my time to keep seeing the same thing again and again when there really wasn't anything new and when I mentioned it, people thought it was about the content but it was really about seeing the same thing over and over, sorta like reading the same book 20 times a day.
Anyway that is just one of my own personal peeves and something pretty hard to police I suppose.
I've made many many good friends (and some enemies too I'm sure) in the last 13 years and putting up with stuff I didn't really care for has certainly been well worth it all (not even to mention all the technical stuff I've learned).
I'm betting that this forum will be very successful as is after all the little bugs are worked out and hope to be a member here for at least another thirteen years.

I agree with you Dean. Some of those little lines MAY HAVE BEEN funny once or twice, but the constant repeating of it is getting really old, really fast. It's my hope that this site stays more Chevelle only oriented and remains void of mindless drivel and banter. Use Facebook and Twitter for that crap because 95% of other people don't want to see it.

Agreed. Tired of the old, excited about the new.

I agree, but in some cases it has to be done to correct bad/wrong information for future site search. Maybe I'm wrong?

Glad to be here. I agree with the sentiments about no CE and how it spills over into other forums.
I applaud you Dale for taking the initiative to start this website.
I started at TC and continued for one reason - to learn and also share knowledge of chevelle related items.
I am really hopeful that this stays a Chevelle related forum and leaves out the mass policitics/socializing.
I know this is a new startup and the site will go though modifications as part of a normal process.
We should all support Dale in this endeavor and give feedback/suggestions and then "buyin" to whatever transpires.
You can't please everbody all the time. Dale, I'll send you some Goody powders when the headaches start. (Don't think they sell them out west do they?)
Whatsowhomsoever, glad to be here.

Compared to the rest of you I am fairly new at TC. I learned a lot there but it seems that it is getting harder to find answers and learn things over there. With 3 Chevelles now I am always trying to figure something out or find the best way to do something. I do not mind supporting sites like this, they are just like having a tool that I need in the tool box.. an investment. Thanks Dale for starting this up.
Can you direct me to the post where I can make a donation to help you out?

Thanks Dale. I hope we can keep it simple and to the point. This is a Chevelle forum and I am getting tired of all the non Chevelle posts at TC. Again thank you!

not to promote your pet peeve or anything by replying to your reply, but some forum software has an option for threaded viewing. With that you can easily see which posts are replies to replies and bypass them.

I can only reiterate what has already been said here. Yes, Team Chevelle is quite a bit different then it was when I joined in 2000. Also agree it has gone slightly away from what the original intention was, that being a Car Forum to discuss our hobby. I will not be leaving TC, nor will I flame it, as it has been good to me. I will try to be a strong supporter of this site as well and I think there is room for both. Good luck Dale.

The same people that were on the other site may come to this site. People are not going to change just because they changed sites. Then to top it off, you already started complaining about what happens at the other site, inculding what happens in CE, the very subjects you did not want here.
I think the whole idea is to get the Chevelle enthusiasts to the site so info can be passed from one another. To do that, new people need to see that people are posting here, or they will just leave. Nobody will hang around a site that looks void of content.

That was my first thought as well when I seen Dale had started this. Its nice to have a forum for these cars where its more about the cars and the technical stuff then it is about bench racing.
Plus the fact that this forum is started by a Chevelle guy for Chevelle guys is the best part.

I am interested in learning what some of you older guys know. I wasn't even glint in someone's eye when these cars were rolling off the assembly lines. I have read and read at TC, and picked up so much knowledge it is almost sickening. I've also experienced that it is best to keep my mouth...er...fingers shut unless I know what I am talking about. There are threads that I will add a post to gain a subscription so that I can keep on the loop for what happens, but only sometimes.
I can almost tell all of the nuances between SS cars and Malibus, and which parts are for which year model cars. Until recently I would have NEVER attempted taking an engine apart, out of apprehension of seeing it never go back together right. With the help of TC, I was able to do it, and for that I am perpetually thankful.
I have some kind of idea what kind of fella Dale is, and know that this site will be nothing but a class act.
By the way...the dude is right ------------>

Well said Don. I've always tried to support Dale's efforts since Chevellestuff.com was born with sending in trim tag samples, offering info, etc. I also absolutely believe there is room for both sites

I will try to be fair, and not discriminate, but the useless posts only take up space and won't be tolerated too much. I too want to see an "old" TC version, where people came in looking for knowledge, and asking legitimate questions, and getting good answers. All new sites go through "teething pains" so everyone should be patient to see how things go. Lets have fun, guys....

I think the mods on the site will help a lot - the ability to keep the posts clean and "on topic" go a long way IMO. I think it would be good for Dale or whomever to be able to kill a post that is completely irrelevant - but then PM that poster so they are aware of what happened.
I think if we stay focused on what brings us together (chevelles, horsepower, etc) and avoid the things that divide us (politics, for example) the site will do well.
