I called GM and ordered the restoration kits they supply for my 71 and 66. When I got them, they had sent me 71 and 69. If anyone has a 66 they would trade for the 69 kit, I would like to trade. Just pm or email me and we'll work it out.

No trade here; however I got my 66 from gm a couple of years ago, so they should have them.

I heard they began charging for those now, true? They used to be free.

Do you mean all the paperwork regarding your car, i.e. call GM, provide the Year, Model and VIN of your car and they send you about 100+ pages of info?

I called and received mine back in 2008 for my '70 SS, but there was no charge. I've "read" that the cost of that material was $50 beginning sometime in 2009, but that has not been positively confirmed.

I don't remember the date I last ordered one but they were free. I'd heard too that they began charging $50 or so and was trying to confirm what the current status was.

I can see them charging for the information given their current financial status, but $50 seems pretty outrageous. I think if we tried hard enough we could compile copies of each packet for each year and make and distribute our own copies. Since this data is so old I wonder if that would violate any rules/laws? It can't be proprietary data at this point, especially considering it's been widely distributed (mostly for free) for decades now.

Personally, I have copies for '65 for all V8 models including the Z16 and for wagons and El Caminos. For the cost of paper and postage I could make copies for anyone who would like a set.

Guess we'll have to wait until Tony get back online to see when he ordered the the packets and what, if anything, he was charged.

I would suppose that if anyone has the phone number (I misplaced mine), to call them and verify if there is a charge (or not) for that packet.

I ordered them on 2/8/07. They were free then also, but the person I spoke with told me that they were out of and would not be getting anymore for 66. If anyone has a 66 they would copy, I'll pay them for the trouble or send them the 69 packet in trade or whatever they want. The next rainy day we get next week, I'll call them again just to see what the deal is. If anyone else has time and wants to try and contact them the number is 1-800-222-1020.
