Welcome! I had a '67 SS once in Tucson with plans to put it all together.... (it had been taken all apart but was original matching # car.)

I had no money, 2 kids and wife, rent, a Pinto, a '66 Malibu and bills. Never was able to finish it ans sold it cheap waaaay back in about '87. They are neat cars!

Greetings fellow '67 owners! I have always loved the styling of the '67 Chevelles, even back in the 1960s when I was still riding a tricycle.

Fast forward to 1972. I visited my cousin and saw a nice 1967 Malibu Sport Coupe in their driveway. When I asked whose car it was, I was told it belonged to my Aunt Janet. I didn't know she owned a car since every time she came to visit us, we picked her up and dropped her off. I never saw her drive the thing. By the time I was old enough to drive I started asking my aunt to sell me her car, but she never wanted to part with it.

Fast forward to 1984. I saw my aunt at a family reunion and eventually asked about that old Chevelle she used to have. She told me she still had it but she didn't want to part with it. "How many miles on it?" I asked. "Not many" she replied. It turns out she bought the Chevelle new off the lot in 1967 where it was used as a demonstrator.

In 1985 my Aunt Janet was diagnosed with lung cancer  . I visited her in the hospital and never brought up the car; I was just so sad to learn that my "spunky aunt" was not long for this world. She passed away at the end of May, 1985. I had never seen her actually drive it, although I did see it parked in various driveways as she moved from house to apartment. I was given the totally original Chevelle out of her estate for a good price "because they didn't want to see it get hot-rodded and wrecked" according to my cousin. So in all these years I have owned it I have kept it as stock as I can, six-cylinder, Powerglide, whitewalls and all. It is a family heirloom after all.

After getting razzed by so many people for leaving a 250 Powerglide under the hood (what can I say? I actually like it) I have finally decided to do a drivetrain swap. In 2010 the original six is coming out to be replaced with... another six  The engine is nearly complete now, displacing about 296 c.i. Compression is 10:1, a ported, polished and significantly modified lump port head (Kay Sissel invention), oversize valves and screw-in rocker studs are employed. I have twin 2-barrel carbs, an Offy intake (port matched of course), headers and a marine cam. HEI ignition and hopefully an aluminum rad will round out the powerplant. It should make about 275 - 300 horses I figure, but it is not about the horsepower, it's all about the torque (otherwise I'd have 3 carbs and a still hotter cam!) I still have to line up a transmission but I am thinking either 200 4R or 700 4R. A TH350 would also be fine with the present 3.08 rear gears, but with an O.D. automatic I likely would be best running 3.55 or 3.70 gears. As much as I prefer manual transmissions and have always owned them (except for an Olds 98 once), I want this car to continue to look completely stock outside and not have anything done that can't be undone  That way my stock drivetrain could conceivably return and the hot drivetrain could be shifted into another Chevelle or Beaumont for more fun.

That is a great story Cam, and thrilled to hear you ended up with the car. I too have memories of 67 cars as it was the first new model year car I remember my father buying. A sweet 67 SS Impala......I only remember him getting into it a few times and it was for carbon cleaning purposes...... Or thats the excuse he gave my mother. Fast forward a year or so to when the family took her back home for the summer vacation to Maryland from Florida. My father caught hell from mom going through Atlanta......
During our brief visit with all the relatives we stopped into my Aunt and Uncles house. My uncle had a 67 SS Chevelle and he was needing some PBR for the occasion of us stopping by. He offered to take me along and lets just say if the store was 3 miles away we burnt tires for 2 of those miles.......:yahoo: egged on by me. When arriving back it was the first fight I seen my Aunt and Uncle have.....And not much you could really say to defend his actions....They heard us stopping and pulling hole shots and rowing gears.....and the posi black marks were very noticeably the entire route we took that evening leaving going to my grandparents...I later bought a 67 SS Nova after getting my door blown off in my Camaro by one. When the urge to go Hot Rodding hit again (mid life crisis deal) I started my search. It was a complex ordeal as I really had not narrowed down exactly what I wanted to own....In steps the internet...I looked at about a zillion cars, all years and models.....I then put together a full screen slide show allowing it to be my screen saver until I concluded in my mind I had to have a 67 Chevelle. Dont get me wrong I like all Chevelle's....Just 67's a bit more with their no pollution thought design and safety improvement enhancements. Enjoy your 67 and think of the memories of your childhood.....Now Gene on the other hand is a (6) pack guy as well I believe, as was my uncle.....Only he thinks 3x2 barrels are in order......
I'm GUESSING Gene may have been around a (67) Vette or 2 growing up........
